 Our Mission Statement

"At Actual Natural Kids, our mission is to nurture the whole child through intentional, play-based exploration. We are dedicated to providing an authentic environment where children develop the physical strength, critical thinking, and social independence necessary to transition confidently into kindergarten and a lifetime of learning."

Welcome to Actual Natural Kids!

Hello

Thank you so much for your interest in Actual Natural Kids. Choosing a preschool is a big decision, and we are honored you’re considering us to be a part of your child’s early learning journey.

We are a play-based preschool because we believe that play is the most powerful—and natural—way for a child to learn. Our mission is to cultivate a natural foundation for life by building strong bodies, sharp minds, and independent spirits, one discovery at a time.

The Heart of Our Classroom: 20 Years of Partnership One of the things that makes our program truly unique is the stability of our teaching team. My dedicated aide and I have been working side-by-side for 20 years. This deep partnership allows us to provide a seamless, nurturing environment where we can anticipate the needs of our students and offer a level of consistency that is rare in early childhood education. Your child won't just have teachers; they will have a seasoned team that knows how to guide their growth every step of the way.

How We Grow Together In our classroom, "play" is intentional work. We focus on four core pillars of development to ensure your child is more than just "ready" for kindergarten—we want them to be confident:

Our Learning Environment: Purpose in Every Corner

At Actual Natural Kids, our room is intentionally divided into specialized zones. Each area is designed to provoke specific developmental milestones:

๐Ÿงฑ The Block & Construction Zone

This is where our Critical Thinking and Fine Motor skills collide. As children build, they are naturally practicing:

  • Spatial Reasoning: Understanding how shapes fit together.

  • Trial and Error: Figuring out why a tower falls and how to make the base stronger.

  • Math Foundations: Learning about symmetry, weight, and balance.

๐ŸŽญ Dramatic Play (The "Imagination Station")

By dressing up and role-playing, children develop essential Language and Social Skills:

  • Collaboration: Negotiating who will be the "doctor" or the "chef."

  • Self-Care: Practicing fine motor skills like zipping jackets or buttoning doll clothes.

  • Empathy: Taking on different roles to understand the world from another perspective.

๐ŸŽจ The Art & Expression Studio

Art is about the process, not just the product. In this area, we focus on:

  • Pincer Grasp: Using brushes, crayons, and markers to prep for writing.

  • Sensory Integration: Exploring different textures and colors.

  • Planning & Sequencing: Deciding which steps to take to create their vision.

๐ŸŒŠ Sensory & Quiet Corner

Learning also requires reflection and regulation. This space provides:

  • Self-Regulation: A calm area to reset and manage big feelings.

  • Tactile Exploration: Using sand, water, or textured toys to stimulate the brain.

  • Focus: A "quiet" zone for looking at books and developing early literacy interest.

๐Ÿƒ Large Motor Area

Because kids are built to move, we have dedicated space for Gross Motor development:

  • Bilateral Coordination: Activities like marching with instruments or "The Floor is Lava."

  • Core Strength: Squatting, reaching, and stabilizing while navigating obstacles.

๐ŸŒฟ The Great Outdoors: We believe strongly in the power of outside play. Whether it's marching with instruments or exploring nature, the outdoors provides the ultimate space for gross motor development and discovery.

A Window Into Their Day Communication with our families is a priority. You will receive regular updates on the specific skills your child practiced—from sequencing a new project to trying new snacks (like our Tuesday favorite-wraps with peanut butter and chocolate chips!).

We invite you to come see our "natural" approach in action. My aide and I would love to schedule a time for you and your child to visit, explore our space, and see how we turn every moment into a learning opportunity.

Warmly,

Dawn Owner/Lead Educator, Actual Natural Kid
